When Does SoundExchange Pay Royalties?

When a song spins on satellite radio, SoundExchange doesn’t pay royalties right away. There is a delay of 3 to 5 months before you will actually receive your payment for those spins. The length of time you have to wait depends on whether you are signed up to receive quarterly or monthly payments.

Quarterly Royalties Payments from SoundExchange

When you sign up on SoundExchange, the default payment option is to receive quarterly payments by check. Every quarter, you will receive payment for the spins your songs earned in the previous quarter. Here’s how it breaks down:

For example, let’s say your song spins during the months of March and April. You will receive a royalties check for your March spins at the end of June. Then you will receive your April payment at the end of September.

Monthly Royalties Payments from SoundExchange

You can sign up on SoundExchange to receive monthly payments, so you don’t have to wait quite as long. But there is still a three-month delay before you receive your royalties. Here’s what it looks like:

For example, let’s say you sign up for monthly payments, and your song spins during the months of March and April. In this case, you will receive a royalties check for your March spins at the end of June. Then you will receive your April payment at the end of July.

How to Get Monthly Payments from SoundExchange

While quarterly payments come as checks in the mail, monthly payments are direct deposit.

To sign up for direct deposit, complete the SoundExchange Direct Deposit form and send it along with a voided check to accounts@soundexchange.com.

Once SoundExchange processes your request, your royalty payments will be automatically deposited in your checking account every month.
